In a deeply personal and emotional interview with Women’s Health, Grammy-winning artist Lizzo revealed how the explosive sexual assault lawsuit and the wave of public backlash nearly pushed her to the brink.
The Yitty founder said the ordeal left her in a mental and emotional low she had never experienced before.
“It got to the point where it’s just like, well… You ever get tired of living? I could die. I never attempted to kill myself or thought about it, but I did think, ‘If everyone hates you and thinks you’re a terrible person, then what’s the point?’”
The lawsuit, filed by several of her former dancers, garnered global headlines and sparked a fierce online debate. While Lizzo has denied the allegations, the public scrutiny took a heavy toll on her well-being.
But one moment became a turning point — Beyoncé’s ‘Renaissance World Tour’.
Despite being afraid of facing a hostile crowd, Lizzo said she was overwhelmed by love and support from fans, which helped pull her out of the dark headspace.
“I was terrified. I thought people were going to boo me. Instead, they cheered. It reminded me that I’m not alone, and that people still see me, the real me.”
In December, a judge dismissed Lizzo from the lawsuit, though her touring company still faces ongoing legal proceedings. Nonetheless, the singer says she’s now in a much better place emotionally and mentally.
This marks the most candid Lizzo has been since the controversy erupted — a reflection of both her vulnerability and resilience as she begins rebuilding from one of the most difficult chapters of her career.
