Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has appealed to members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and affiliated political groups to remain committed to the party despite its current internal challenges.
Speaking at the PDP South West Zonal Caucus meeting held on Friday in Ibadan, Makinde emphasized the need for unity and resilience, likening the situation to not abandoning a house simply because of a leaking roof.
“You can’t abandon your house because of a leaking roof,” Makinde said. “The PDP is built on solid foundations. Like any structure, it may experience wear and tear, but it is our responsibility as members to fix the leaks, reinforce the foundation, and ensure the house remains standing.”
Key Points:
-
Makinde acknowledged existing party issues but stressed collective action over desertion.
-
He reaffirmed commitment to party unity, electoral success, and ongoing reform efforts.
-
The governor urged stakeholders to keep working together for the party’s future and national relevance.
“Let us fix the roof together and keep this house strong for the future,” he concluded.
Makinde’s call comes amid growing tensions and defections in the PDP across various states, particularly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
