FC Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen has confirmed that he will undergo back surgery, putting an end to speculation about his future at the club.
In a heartfelt statement shared on social media, the German international reaffirmed his commitment to Barça and explained the medical decision behind his absence.
“Dear Culers,
I wear the colors and jersey of FC Barcelona with great pride, whether on or off the pitch, in moments of success and in difficult times. Today is a personally difficult day for me,” Ter Stegen began.
Surgery Set for Full Recovery
Despite feeling “very good physically and athletically,” Ter Stegen revealed he has been battling persistent back pain, prompting a decision made in consultation with Barça’s medical team and external experts.
“The quickest and safest way for me to fully recover is through back surgery,” he said. “After my last operation, I returned after 66 days. This time, doctors recommend about three months to avoid any risks.”
No Plans to Leave Barcelona
Amid recent transfer rumors, Ter Stegen made it clear he is not leaving FC Barcelona, emphasizing his emotional connection to the club.
“It hurts a lot not being able to support the team during this time. But the road back is clear… Don’t worry—I’ll be back!”
A Leader On and Off the Pitch
The 32-year-old shot-stopper has been a pillar of consistency for Barcelona since joining in 2014, helping the club secure numerous domestic and international titles. His leadership and shot-stopping ability have made him one of the most trusted figures at Camp Nou.
Fans across the football world, especially Culers, have responded with overwhelming support. The club is expected to provide updates on his progress throughout his rehabilitation period.
