Miley Cyrus has opened up about her decision to stay off the road, revealing that despite her physical ability and opportunities, touring is no longer her desire.
In a candid interview on Good Morning America, the Grammy-winning singer — currently promoting her latest album, Something Beautiful — shared the emotional and mental reasons behind her choice to skip large-scale tours.
“I Wish I Had the Desire” – Miley Gets Honest
While fans have long speculated about a return to touring since her 2014 Bangerz tour, Cyrus made it clear:
“I do have the physical ability, and I have the opportunities to tour. I wish I had the desire but I don’t.”
Mental Health, Sobriety, and Industry Pressures
Cyrus highlighted the lack of support systems for artists, especially when it comes to mental health and sobriety on the road.
“I don’t think there’s actually an infrastructure that supports artists,” she said. “You’re out on the road, and it’s hard to maintain sobriety, which is a really important pillar of stability in my life.”
She also referenced the tragic fates of music legends like Prince, saying their high-intensity lifestyles contributed to their downfall:
“Not only losing their life but losing their minds.”
The Emotional Rollercoaster of Performing Live
Cyrus dismissed the idea that she’s afraid of performing and confirmed she still enjoys challenges. However, she emphasized how the emotional highs and lows of touring can be destabilizing:
“You have so many thousands of people screaming at you… then you totally crash at the end of the show. You start thinking one person loving you is not enough. It needs to be 10,000. It needs to be 80,000.”
A New Era of Miley, Without the Tour Bus
Although Miley fans may be disappointed, it’s clear that the Flowers singer is focused on preserving her mental health and long-term wellbeing, even if that means fewer concerts.
With her new album Something Beautiful garnering critical acclaim, Cyrus continues to shine—just on her own terms.
