Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was briefly delayed by immigration officers at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Thursday morning while attempting to board a flight to the United Kingdom.
According to a report by Premium Times, the senator was traveling alongside her husband to attend her stepson’s graduation ceremony abroad when she was informed that her name had been placed on a travel watch list—allegedly at the request of the National Assembly leadership.
Officials reportedly cited concerns that she had been flagged as a potential flight risk, though no court order restricting her movement was in effect.
Sources close to the matter confirmed that the senator has consistently attended all of her court proceedings and was unaware of any travel restrictions.
The unexpected development caught the airport off guard, drawing attention from both travelers and staff. However, after several phone calls and nearly an hour-long delay, her passport was eventually cleared, and she was allowed to board the flight.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is expected to return to Nigeria in two weeks. Her family has expressed hope that there will be no further disruptions to her movements.
