Nicki Minaj calls out Jay-Z over alleged $200m debt

Nicki Minaj and Jay-Z

Nicki Minaj ignited social media on Tuesday after calling out Jay-Z in a pair of explosive posts on X (formerly Twitter), accusing the rap mogul of owing her between $100 million and $200 million. The Queens rapper claimed the alleged debt stemmed from past business dealings and pledged to use the money—if recovered—to support her fans’ education.

“We’ve calculated about 100-200MM so far. #JayZ call me to settle this karmic debt. It’s only collecting more interest. You still in my TOP 5 tho. Let’s get it n***a. And anyone still calling him Hov will answer to God for the blasphemy,” Minaj tweeted.

In a follow-up, she added a philanthropic twist:

“I’m going to use some of the money #JayZ owes me to send some of my Barbz to college, pay their school fees & student loans via my #StudentOfTheGame charity.”

This isn’t the first time the “Pink Friday 2” artist has voiced frustration with Jay-Z. Just last week, Minaj reposted fans criticizing her deal with the rapper’s former streaming platform, Tidal. One fan wrote, “#jayz owes Nicki Minaj money & a apology,” while another claimed, “#JayZ should of paid Nicki Minaj her cut of the Tidal deal.” Minaj amplified both statements on her page.

Jay-Z co-founded Tidal alongside a host of A-list artists including Nicki Minaj, J. Cole, and Rihanna. However, in 2021, he sold the platform to Jack Dorsey’s Square (now Block Inc.) in a deal reportedly worth $300 million. Minaj has claimed she was promised a much larger payout from the deal but says she was ultimately only offered $1 million, according to Complex.

Adding fuel to the fire, Minaj appeared to shade Jay-Z in a recent verse on Lil Wayne’s remix of “Banned From NO.”

“NFL, fire some n****s and then call us,” she rapped—an apparent reference to the NFL’s decision to select Kendrick Lamar over Lil Wayne for the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, a choice made in part through Jay-Z’s partnership with the league.

As of now, Jay-Z has not publicly responded to Minaj’s accusations. Still, the drama has reignited industry debates around artist equity and payout transparency—especially in high-stakes ventures like Tidal. Whether the issue gets settled behind closed doors or continues to play out in the public eye remains to be seen.
