“Nigerians Will Never Go Back to Egypt” — Sanwo-Olu Slams 2027 Coalition Plot Against Tinubu

Tinubu Appears to Snub Governor Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has dismissed the proposed political coalition aiming to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election, describing it as an “empty alliance” lacking vision and direction.

Speaking during an interactive session with journalists and political stakeholders in Lagos, Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed confidence in President Tinubu’s reform-driven administration and accused the coalition of trying to derail Nigeria’s ongoing progress.

“Nigerians will never go back to Egypt,” he declared, emphasizing that the country had moved beyond outdated political ideologies and approaches.

“The goal of this coalition is clear, to distract the Commander-in-Chief and obstruct the tangible social and economic progress being achieved. But President Tinubu understands the game and remains focused,” he added.

The coalition reportedly includes prominent political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Senate President David Mark, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and ex-governors Nasir el-Rufai and Rauf Aregbesola. Despite their influence, Sanwo-Olu dismissed them as a group of “discontented actors” with no unified ideology.

He highlighted several achievements under Tinubu’s leadership, including stabilization of the foreign exchange market, the launch of the student loan initiative, enhanced state revenues post-subsidy removal, ongoing tax reforms, improved oil production, infrastructure development, and progress in minimum wage negotiations.

“President Tinubu is not just a leader but a nation-builder. His legacy of empowerment and vision continues to drive meaningful change across Nigeria,” Sanwo-Olu said.

When asked whether the opposition posed any threat to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or Tinubu’s re-election, the governor responded confidently:

“There is no need for concern. Nigerians are discerning; they recognize real leadership and results when they see them. The record speaks louder than political noise.”

Echoing the tone of some presidential aides, Sanwo-Olu described the coalition as a mix of “political desperados” and “internally displaced politicians” who offer no real solutions.

“They offer no new vision, only grievances. Their alliance is rooted in opposition to the President rather than a unifying ideology. Such efforts are bound to collapse under their own contradictions,” he added.

Sanwo-Olu urged President Tinubu to “stay the course,” assuring him of widespread support across party lines and encouraging Nigerians to remain focused and resilient amid political distractions.
