Music executive Oscar Heman-Ackah has penned a heartfelt tribute to his wife, celebrated Nigerian filmmaker Kemi Adetiba, following the successful debut of her latest Netflix series, To Kill a Monkey.
In an Instagram post, Oscar praised her brilliance and tireless commitment to telling bold, thought-provoking stories.
“It’s only been a few days since To Kill A Monkey was released… and already, the waves it’s making are impossible to ignore,” he wrote. “I’ve seen the reactions, the heated conversations, the quiet reflections… and I just want to say this: MY WIFE @kemiadetiba is a GENIUS.”
He commended Kemi for pouring her heart and soul into the series. “I watched her give everything to this story—her mind, her heart, her discipline, her spirit. The weight of it, the questions she wrestled with alone… and somehow, she held the entire vision with clarity and courage until it stood, exactly the way she imagined.”
According to Oscar, the depth and complexity of To Kill A Monkey make it a powerful piece of work. “It’s layered, uncomfortable, and deeply human. And the way everyone is responding to it so passionately is a testament to the depth of her voice and the sharpness of her mind. I’m not surprised. But I’m still in awe. Baby… I see you. I love you. And I’m proud of you beyond measure.”
He also gave a shout-out to Kemi’s brother, Remi Adetiba, who co-produced the series. “To my brother Remzinator @remiadetiba… thank you for being such a pillar and driver of this incredible woman’s vision. You navigated the craziest storms, challenges, and obstacles to produce the heck out of this. Hats off to you too, my brother.”
Oscar extended appreciation to the entire cast and crew, noting how every detail of the production helped bring the series to life. He urged fans to keep streaming the show, even humorously suggesting, “If we talk on the phone during this period, I want to be hearing To Kill A Monkey playing softly in the background.”
In response to his tribute, Kemi shared a screenshot of his post on Instagram and expressed deep gratitude. “I just want you all to know… That my ‘husbeeend’ thinks I’m a GENIUS 😊😊🙈🥰.”
She also applauded Oscar for his role in handling the music score and sound design for the series. “You even put your own projects to the side, just to focus on mine. I’m forever grateful for the way you love up on me and everything involving me ♥️.”
Kemi gave fans a teaser, hinting at the upcoming release of Finding Messiah, Oscar’s own project, while playfully adding, “The streets are asking for the TKAM soundtrack ohhh. What should I tell them 😝?”
To Kill a Monkey premiered globally on Netflix on July 18 and features a powerful lineup including Bucci Franklin, William Benson, Chidi Mokeme, Ireti Doyle, and Bimbo Akintola. The series has been widely praised for its daring narrative, emotional depth, and stunning cinematography, quickly becoming a trending topic across social media platforms.
Kemi Adetiba, known for iconic works like The Wedding Party and King of Boys, has once again proven her storytelling prowess with this gripping and socially relevant drama.
