PDP Moves to Reintegrate Peter Obi Ahead of 2027, Describes Him as ‘Political Capital’

‘Women not as corrupt as men’ – Peter Obi

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has revealed ongoing efforts to bring back Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), into its fold ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News Thursday night, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Ibrahim Abdullahi, described Obi as a “product of the PDP” and a valuable political figure.

“Peter Obi is our product, and the PDP indeed wants to get him back. He is a very great capital for any political party,” Abdullahi said.

He commended Obi’s performance in the 2023 election, where the former Anambra State Governor secured over six million votes and won 12 states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), despite what he described as widespread rigging and electoral manipulation.

Obi, who was the vice-presidential candidate of the PDP in 2019, defected to the Labour Party ahead of the 2023 elections and emerged as its flagbearer. He ran against Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Atiku Abubakar, PDP’s standard-bearer.

Although INEC declared Tinubu winner, Obi came third, behind Atiku.

Abdullahi emphasized Obi’s political strength:

“If he had not gone the way he did in the last dispensation and proved that mettle to generate over six million votes, even amid frustration, Peter Obi is truly a political capital — no doubt about it.”

Meanwhile, Obi recently reiterated that he remains a Labour Party member but is willing to work with a broader political coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a related twist, Atiku Abubakar, a two-time PDP presidential candidate, is reported to have resigned from the PDP and is now a key figure in the newly formed opposition coalition seeking to unseat President Tinubu in 2027.

The possibility of a PDP-Obi reunion adds further intrigue to Nigeria’s evolving political realignments ahead of the next election cycle.
