Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has expressed strong concerns about the future of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that the party may place fourth in Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Fayose acknowledged that although he was invited, he did not attend the recent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party. He used the opportunity to highlight what he described as deep-rooted issues within the PDP.
“PDP will come 4th in the next general election. A lot is wrong with our party, and that is the naked truth,” Fayose declared, lamenting the internal disarray.
The PDP has been grappling with ongoing leadership crises and internal divisions. These struggles have triggered major defections, with prominent figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Senate President David Mark reportedly aligning with an opposition coalition that adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform.
His comments underscore the growing uncertainty surrounding the PDP’s ability to remain competitive ahead of the next election cycle.
