“If You Have Nothing Meaningful to Say, Keep Quiet” — Isaac Fayose Slams Brother Over Oyo Kidnapping Remarks

Ayodele Fayose

A fresh family and political disagreement has unfolded in the public eye after businessman and social commentator Isaac Fayose criticized his elder brother, former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, over comments linked to a recent kidnapping incident in Oyo State.

The controversy began after the former governor reportedly suggested that the Oyo State Government could bear some responsibility for the circumstances surrounding the abduction. This statement quickly generated debate across social media and political circles.

Reacting to the remarks, Isaac Fayose expressed strong disapproval, questioning why similar accusations were never directed at the Ekiti State Government during periods when kidnappings and security challenges affected their home state.

In a video response that has since circulated online, Isaac argued that public officials and political leaders must exercise caution when commenting on sensitive security matters, especially when such statements could fuel speculation or undermine public confidence.

“Shame caught me after watching my brother’s interview last night,” he said.

Drawing comparisons with past security incidents in Ekiti State, he challenged the logic behind blaming a state government for criminal activities carried out by kidnappers.

“When people were kidnapped in our state, Ekiti, why didn’t you accuse the governor?” he asked.

“Why are you now saying that the Governor of Oyo State might have a hand in the Oyo kidnapping?”

The businessman did not stop there.

In one of the strongest parts of his reaction, Isaac openly advised his elder brother to refrain from making comments he believes lack substance or evidence.

“My brother, if you don’t have anything meaningful to say, keep quiet like other former governors,” he stated.

The remarks have added another dimension to an already heated discussion surrounding insecurity in parts of the country, particularly following recent abductions that have raised concerns among residents and public figures alike.

Security challenges, including kidnappings for ransom, have remained one of Nigeria’s most pressing issues in recent years, prompting calls for stronger action from federal and state authorities.

The incident also highlights how political commentary on security matters can quickly become controversial, especially when suggestions of government involvement or negligence are made without official findings or investigations to support them.

While critics of the former governor’s comments argue that security issues should be addressed through facts and intelligence reports rather than speculation, supporters contend that elected leaders must be held accountable for security within their jurisdictions.

As of the time of reporting, Ayodele Fayose had not publicly responded to his brother’s criticism.

The exchange has nevertheless attracted significant attention online, with many Nigerians debating not only the substance of the original comments but also the unusual sight of two prominent members of the same family publicly disagreeing on a matter of national concern.

Beyond the family dimension, the episode underscores the heightened sensitivity surrounding conversations about insecurity in Nigeria.

With public anxiety growing over kidnappings and violent attacks in several parts of the country, statements from political figures are increasingly scrutinised for both their accuracy and potential impact.

For now, Isaac Fayose’s message is clear: accusations relating to security should be made carefully, and public figures should avoid comments that could further inflame an already tense situation.

Whether his intervention will prompt a response from the former governor remains to be seen. Still, it has undoubtedly added another layer to an ongoing national conversation about accountability, security, and political responsibility.
