The Nigerian Senate has adjourned its plenary sessions until Tuesday, 23 September 2025, to enable lawmakers to carry out their oversight responsibilities.
The decision followed the adoption of a motion moved by Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, during Thursday’s plenary.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, while addressing the lawmakers, emphasized that the recess is intended for Senate committees to perform their oversight functions across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
“Each committee is expected to submit a detailed report on its oversight activities to the Senate upon resumption,” Akpabio stated.
In addition, the Senate President announced that All Progressives Congress (APC) senators are expected to attend the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, which is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on the same day.
The adjournment signals a critical period where lawmakers are expected to engage more directly with governance issues and provide checks on the executive through detailed oversight.
