Global superstars Shakira and The Weeknd have been announced as headliners for this year’s Global Citizen Festival, set to take place on September 27 at the Great Lawn in Central Park, New York City.
Shakira, known for global hits like Hips Don’t Lie, expressed her excitement:
“I’m honoured to headline the incredible Global Citizen Festival in Central Park this September. Music has always been my way of connecting with people and leaving a mark on the world. I can’t wait to perform, unite, and inspire action.”
The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, is making a return to the Global Citizen stage, having last headlined the festival in 2018. Shakira also previously performed at the 2017 edition of the event in Hamburg, Germany, ahead of the G20 Summit.
The 2025 edition of the annual charity event will once again be hosted by actor and long-time Global Citizen ambassador, Hugh Jackman, who said:
“The 2025 Global Citizen Festival marks my eleventh year as host, and I’m thrilled by the progress we’ve made over the years. The growing impact of the Global Citizen movement touches every corner of the world, and I’m eager to advocate alongside my fellow ambassadors, performers, world leaders, and private sector executives to leave the world better than we found it.”
Additional performers include Tyla, Ayra Starr, and Mariah the Scientist, with more artists expected to be revealed soon.
This year’s festival aims to:
- Expand energy access for 1 million people in Africa
- Provide quality education and football opportunities for 300,000 children
Tickets to the festival are free, but fans must earn them by participating in volunteer and advocacy actions through the Global Citizen app or website.
