Legendary Motown singer Smokey Robinson is now facing a fifth accusation of sexual battery, as another woman has come forward to file a police report with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Malibu/Lost Hills station on Wednesday, July 16. According to TMZ, the latest accuser joins four others who have previously lodged similar complaints.
Robinson’s attorney, Christopher Frost, responded to the latest development by suggesting that the emergence of more claims is not unexpected, especially in light of the publicity surrounding the lawsuit filed by the initial four accusers, who are represented by the same legal team.
“In today’s climate, it’s unfortunately common for allegations — no matter how unfounded — to surface when one becomes the target of public lawsuits,” Frost stated. He criticized the approach taken by the accusers, saying, “They’ve made claims against an 85-year-old cultural icon but have refused to reveal their identities or fully cooperate with the legal process, such as participating in depositions.”
The original lawsuit, filed nearly three months ago, alleges that Smokey Robinson repeatedly sexually assaulted and harassed four former housekeepers who worked for him between 2006 and 2024. The women claim these actions led to their resignations. Robinson’s wife, Frances, is also named in the suit for allegedly failing to intervene or take corrective action.
The accusers are demanding at least $50 million in damages.
In response, Smokey Robinson filed a $500 million countersuit in May, accusing the four women of defamation. He strongly denied the accusations, insisting they were treated as “family” during their time in his household.
