Former APC presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba, has ridiculed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as a “cucumber” rather than an enduring “Iroko tree.” He claimed the party is in decline and incapable of making any significant impact in the 2027 elections.
Speaking on AIT’s Focus Nigeria on Friday, Adamu Garba said the PDP is in self-destruct mode, having lost public confidence and internal cohesion.
“The way to assess a party’s growth is to look at it like a tree—rooted, bearing fruit, and spreading seeds,” Garba explained. “But the PDP has withered. Its branches are gone, and it’s retreating to the roots.”
He continued, “An Iroko tree can live for 100 years, but PDP isn’t an Iroko — it’s a cucumber. It’s already gone.”
Adamu Garba pointed to internal disputes, such as the friction between the FCT Minister and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and the confusion at the party’s last convention, as signs of the party’s collapse.
According to him, the PDP is stuck in nostalgia, attempting to recreate the successes of the 1998/1999 era, but it is unlikely to survive politically.
