Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has officially received Spotify’s prestigious Billion Streams Plaque after her hit collaboration ‘Wait For U’ with Future and Drake crossed 1 billion streams on the platform.
With this milestone, she now joins fellow Afrobeats stars Wizkid, Rema, and Tyla as recipients of the highly coveted streaming plaque, further cementing her status as a global force in music.
The track, released in 2022, marked a major breakthrough for Tems internationally. It not only earned her a Grammy Award in the Best Melodic Rap Performance category in 2023 but also made her the first African artist to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
This achievement underscores Tems’ continued rise on the global stage and her impact in taking Afrobeats to new heights.
