Controversial Nigerian social media activist, VeryDarkMan, has publicly called out his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, expressing disappointment over the latter’s recent cautionary remarks.
Adeyanju, in a post shared via X (formerly Twitter), had advised VeryDarkMan to steer clear of unnecessary risks, warning that Nigerians would move on quickly if anything unfortunate were to happen to him.
He wrote:
“I call VDM every time to be careful and stop taking unnecessary risks but he doesn’t listen most of the time. If anything happens to you today, everyone has moved on by tomorrow. We only overrate ourselves, Nigerians don’t rate anybody.”
However, in a strongly-worded response, VeryDarkMan criticized the comment, calling it a cowardly mindset. He said he expected more from his lawyer, especially one who is also known as an activist.
“I’m really disappointed in my lawyer, Deji Adeyanju. I’m so disappointed in you for this post, especially because you are a comrade,” he said in a video posted online.
The outspoken critic argued that death is inevitable and that the idea of people moving on after someone’s demise should not be used as a tool to instill fear in those speaking truth to power.
“Jesus Christ died, the world moved on. The Pope died, and a new Pope was installed. Who do you think is special? Buhari died, and the world moved on,” he stated.
VeryDarkMan emphasized that activism and the fight for justice often come with risks, but that should not discourage anyone from standing up for what is right.
“Any human in this country who says ‘Nigeria will move on if you die’ is a coward,” he added. “Some people who don’t even take risks are still being killed in their homes.”
He also referenced ongoing insecurity in regions like Benue, Borno, Taraba, Delta, and Enugu states to highlight that danger exists even for the silent.
