“Are they not entitled because I’m minister?” – Wike Defends Children’s Right to Land Ownership, Denies Allocating Hectares in Abuja

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Debunks Suicide Bombing Rumour in Nyanya Explosion

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has firmly denied allegations that he allocated thousands of hectares of land in Abuja’s prime areas—Maitama and Asokoro—to his sons.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, Wike dismissed the claims as baseless and politically motivated, describing them as part of a smear campaign allegedly originating from Adamawa State.

“Assuming, though not conceding, my children applied for land. Are they not citizens? Are they Ghanaians?” Wike asked. “Even if they applied, are they not entitled because I’m minister?”

Online reports had accused the minister of allocating 2,082 hectares through JOAQ Farms and Estates Limited to one son and 1,740 hectares to another son named Jordan—totaling 3,822 hectares and allegedly valued at $6.45 billion.

Wike refuted the figures, questioning the very possibility of such land availability in Abuja’s most exclusive districts.

“Calculate land in Maitama and Asokoro and tell me where you’d get 2,000 hectares,” he said. “The whole thing is rubbish. Bring the documents, bring empirical evidence.”

He maintained that due process must be followed for any land application, and reiterated that citizenship rights should not be denied to his children simply because of his position.
