The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has addressed public scrutiny over his wealth, stating that he comes from a privileged family and has never been involved in corrupt practices.
In an interview with Channels Television, Wike confirmed owning a Rolls-Royce and made it clear the luxury car was personally purchased — not a gift or a result of questionable dealings.
“I have a Rolls-Royce; nobody gave it to me. I bought it for myself. I didn’t come from the same background as Rotimi Amaechi. As a student, I used a Mercedes-Benz. My father managed several companies. I come from a rich background, though not as rich as the Dangotes,” he said.
Wike’s comments were a direct response to allegations made by his political rival and predecessor, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, who accused him of corruption. But Wike swiftly dismissed the claims and turned the heat on Amaechi and his family.
He alleged that Amaechi’s wife received ₦4 billion over a year from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) under the guise of mobilizing women in the region.
To bolster his claims, the FCT Minister called on President Bola Tinubu to release the much-anticipated forensic audit of the NDDC’s finances.
“I call on President Tinubu to release the forensic audit of the NDDC. If it’s released and her name isn’t there, I will resign as FCT Minister,” Wike declared.
