“Devil Is the Choirmaster” – 9ice Claims Music Industry Is Spiritually Controlled

Family over everything - Nigerian Singer 9ice and his wife Olasunkanmi welcome their second child together

Veteran Nigerian singer Alexander Adegbola Akande, popularly known as 9ice, has made a bold and provocative claim that has sparked widespread discussion on social media and within the entertainment industry.

The Gongo Aso crooner stated that the music industry is under the influence of the devil, who he described as the “choirmaster.”

The revelation came during an appearance on The Nancy Isime Show, where the award-winning artist opened up about the spiritual realities he believes govern the music world.

“The devil controls music. Devil is the choirmaster. That’s why we smoke and do all the things we do,” 9ice said.

9ice Warns Upcoming Artists: “Be Spiritually Prepared”

Speaking further, 9ice — known for his deep Yoruba lyrics and cultural storytelling — urged upcoming musicians to be spiritually conscious before entering the entertainment space.

“Music generally is controlled by the devil. If you’re coming to this industry, understand where you’re coming to,” he added.

He clarified that his comments weren’t just speculative or metaphorical, but based on personal spiritual experiences.

“I’m not lying to you. He [the devil] is the most powerful angel. I’m speaking based on knowledge and what I’ve experienced spiritually,” 9ice emphasized.

Social Media Reactions: Mixed Opinions from Fans

The singer’s remarks have divided public opinion. While some fans praised his honesty and spiritual insight, others questioned the implications of his statement — especially coming from someone who has enjoyed decades of success in the same industry.

A Twitter user wrote: “9ice is saying what many are afraid to admit. The industry is deeper than we think.”

Another added: “How do you call music demonic when it brought you fame and success? Sounds contradictory.”

Is There a Dark Side to Fame?

This isn’t the first time a celebrity has alluded to the spiritual warfare behind fame and the entertainment industry. However, 9ice’s statement has added fresh weight to an age-old debate: Is there a price to pay for musical success?
