Veteran Nigerian singer Abolore Adegbola Akande, popularly known as 9ice, has revealed that he plans to get a tribal mark when he turns 50, in honour of his father.
The 45-year-old singer made the revelation in a video shared via his TikTok page, explaining that the decision is deeply personal and symbolic.
He said, “By the time I’m 50, I will get the same mark as my dad. That’s what I want to do for my birthday. A lot of my boys said I won’t do that, but you will see.”
9ice, who hails from Ogbomosho, Oyo State, is celebrated for his rich use of Yoruba language, proverbial lyrics, and unique delivery style. He shot to fame in 2008 with his hit song ‘Gongo Aso’ and has since remained a respected voice in the Nigerian music scene.
In a previous interview with Nancy Isime in August 2025, the singer disclosed that he is a traditional worshipper, narrating how his encounter with an Ifa priest healed him from a mysterious illness that once made him vomit blood for six months.
He added that the experience led him to embrace traditional spirituality fully, admitting that he wished he had done so earlier in life.
