Human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi has cautioned Nigerians against expecting a political messiah to save the country, insisting that citizens must take responsibility for their own liberation.
Farotimi made this known on Thursday while responding to a question from X user @herdeys1, who had asked if former Anambra State governor Peter Obi was the messiah Nigerians were waiting for.
Responding, the activist wrote:
“I expect no messiah to save Nigeria and the victims of Nigeria, and anyone expecting a messiah should have their brains examined. Your messiah resides in your mirror, nobody’s coming to save us, it is up to us to save ourselves.”
His statement adds to the ongoing debate about Nigeria’s political future and the expectations surrounding the 2027 presidential election.
