Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Dele Momodu has claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has secured total political control of the Southern region as the 2027 presidential election draws closer.
Speaking on News Central TV’s Breakfast Central on Thursday, Momodu argued that no formidable northern politician currently exists to challenge Tinubu, making the President’s re-election bid a strong possibility if the PDP zones its ticket to the South.
According to the publisher and former presidential candidate:
“Tinubu has already locked down the South by taking out Delta, Akwa Ibom, disorganizing Rivers State – Fubara is neither here nor there, even if he comes back tomorrow, he would have to tow the line.
The other states are being worked at so that they can grab them, if they have a choice Tinubu will not have any candidates contesting against him.”
Momodu emphasized that such a situation would put the opposition at a significant disadvantage.
“And once you limit and restrict the presidential election to the South, there is no formidable actor from the North. It is as good as giving it to Asiwaju on a platter,” he said.
He further accused some governors and political leaders of being too timid to challenge Tinubu openly, suggesting that fear and self-interest were shaping political alignments.
“The governors know what they are doing, those looking for a second term know what they are doing not to be seen to be opposed to Asiwaju because this is state capture.
When did Nigeria degenerate that people are afraid to speak truth to power? So just because our friend is the President today it means that all of us must become timid and nobody wants to talk.”
