Manchester United have decided not to sack manager Ruben Amorim despite the team’s embarrassing Carabao Cup elimination to fourth-tier side Grimsby Town on Wednesday night.
The defeat marked the first time in the club’s history that they have been knocked out of a competition by a League Two team. Grimsby took a two-goal lead into halftime before late strikes from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire forced a penalty shootout, which the lower-division side eventually won.
Amorim, who is yet to secure a win this season after three matches in charge, has faced growing speculation about his future at Old Trafford.
However, according to BBC Sport, the 40-year-old still retains the confidence of the club’s hierarchy, who are keen to avoid making short-term decisions at this stage of the campaign.
