The Federal Government has approved a ₦712 billion renovation project for the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.
The announcement was made by Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, following the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.
According to Keyamo, the terminal will undergo a complete overhaul, which involves stripping it down to its structural frame and rebuilding it with state-of-the-art mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
In addition to the terminal refurbishment, the project includes the construction of a new aircraft apron, access roads, bridges, and other support facilities to enhance operational efficiency.
“This is a comprehensive redesign and rebuild. The airport infrastructure is outdated and requires a complete overhaul to meet international standards,” Keyamo said.
The entire renovation is projected to take 22 months to complete.
