Popular Nigerian singer Niniola has opened up about the pain of losing her father, Brigadier-General Simeon Apata (rtd.), who was tragically assassinated in Lagos on January 8, 1995.
In a recent interview with Jay On Air, the Afro-house queen revealed that witnessing the incident left a lasting scar that she has never fully healed from.
“I was in the house when my dad was murdered. And I was his favourite child, so you can imagine [the trauma]. Till today, I’m not over it. I can never get over it,” she said.
“I was very young when it happened. I don’t remember my exact age then but it wasn’t a good memory.”
Niniola’s sister, Teni, also a singer, had previously shared in 2023 that watching their father’s assassination at just two years old left her traumatised as well.
The sisters have both spoken about how the tragic loss shaped their lives and continues to influence their emotional journeys.
