Dr. Ify Aniebo, a renowned academic and wife of Labour Party’s 2023 Lagos State governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has voiced her concern over the deteriorating quality of ginger sold in Nigerian markets.
In a post shared via her official X (formerly Twitter) account, Dr. Aniebo said there was something “off” about the ginger currently being sold across the country. According to her, the spice is no longer as hot, spicy, or aromatic as the variety many Nigerians were once familiar with.
Her comments have sparked widespread reactions online, with many users echoing the same experience. Social media users noted that the taste, strength, and fragrance of ginger available in the markets today have significantly declined.
The issue has reignited discussions around agricultural practices, soil quality, and food authenticity in Nigeria, with calls for proper regulation and investigation into the production and distribution of local produce.
