Former Big Brother Naija reality star, Pere Egbi, has shared the tragic news that a close friend of his recently took his own life as a result of online bullying.
The actor made the disclosure on Monday through his X handle, though he did not reveal whether the incident occurred in Nigeria or in the United States, where he currently resides.
“I lost a friend today due to online bullying. Committed suicide. Smh. RIP champ. It is well,” he wrote.
The revelation has sparked conversations about the devastating effects of cyberbullying and the urgent need for awareness and stronger protective measures against online harassment.
This comes shortly after Pere stirred controversy with his remarks comparing Nollywood and South Africa’s film industry. He had asserted that South Africa is ahead of Nigeria in filmmaking, storytelling, and work ethics, stressing that Nollywood still has a lot to learn.
Beyond reality TV, Pere has made strides in acting and production, featuring in Nollywood and international projects such as Gem of the Rain Forest, Pound of Flesh, and Blood Vessel.
