President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to boosting the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), saying Nigerians have no reason to be poor given the nation’s abundant human and natural resources.
Speaking at the 8th Expanded National MSME Clinic in Calabar on Wednesday, Tinubu — represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima — highlighted Cross River’s fertile land and capacity to grow nearly every crop, noting that the state holds a competitive advantage in the Federal Government’s plan to plant 100 million oil palm trees.
He said his government has guaranteed access to capital since taking office and is determined to support initiatives that will redefine work, skills, and industry in Nigeria. Commending Cross River’s new technology and communication hub for MSMEs, Tinubu stressed that affordable access to high-speed internet, modern equipment, and collaborative spaces will empower entrepreneurs across sectors, from market women to furniture makers and fashion designers.
“Our commitment is not just to give loans or grants, but to build an ecosystem that provides infrastructure and enhances the creativity of entrepreneurs,” he stated.
Governor Bassey Otu described the MSME Clinic as a joint effort between the state and Federal Government to enhance entrepreneurship and economic growth. He revealed that 3,500 entrepreneurs have already been trained through the state’s Micro Finance and Enterprise Development Agency.
Pius Neji, Head of the Bank of Industry in Cross River, said the bank has disbursed about N260 million to MSMEs in the state, describing Cross River as a fertile ground for industrialisation capable of driving Nigeria’s economic progress.
