The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has cautioned Nigerians traveling to the United States to adhere to the terms and conditions of their visas strictly.
The warning was issued on Thursday by NOA Director-General, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, in a statement signed by the agency’s Director of Communications and Media, Mr. Bala Musa, in Abuja.
Issa-Onilu urged travelers to use their U.S. visas responsibly, stressing that any attempt to engage in activities outside the scope or classification of their visas could lead to serious consequences.
“U.S. authorities constantly monitor visa holders. Visas can be revoked, and individuals deported for breaking immigration rules or any U.S. law,” he warned.
The NOA chief emphasized that security and immigration vetting do not stop at the port of entry, and that visa holders are subject to ongoing scrutiny by American authorities throughout their stay.
He further advised travelers to:
-
Declare excess cash above the legally permitted limit.
-
Avoid packing contraband items in their luggage.
-
Respect all visa conditions, including duration of stay and type of activities permitted.
Issa-Onilu noted that violating visa conditions, including overstaying, can result in deportation or even a lifetime ban from re-entering the U.S.
The agency’s advisory comes amid growing concerns about rising cases of visa misuse and deportation involving Nigerian nationals abroad.
