The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has officially suspended its nationwide strike, which began on July 29, 2025.
Minister of Health, Ali Pate, confirmed the development while addressing journalists following a closed-door meeting held on Friday afternoon.
Pate stated that the decision to suspend the industrial action came after key agreements were reached between the federal government and the leadership of the nursing association.
However, union leaders declined to speak to the press following the meeting.
The strike was initially triggered by the government’s failure to respond to a 15-day ultimatum issued by NANNM on July 14, 2025. The industrial action had affected nurses working in public health institutions nationwide and was expected to continue until August 5, 2025, before this resolution.
