Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Joseph Olubiyi, on Friday performed the foundation-laying ceremony of Curators University, Modakeke — the first tertiary institution in Africa dedicated exclusively to Artificial Intelligence.
The university is set to offer specialised programmes in areas such as Artificial Intelligence (Machine Learning Specialisation), Computer Hardware Engineering, Data Analytics, Database Administration, Arbitration and Conflict Resolution, 3D Printing, and Polymer Science.
Represented by the Commissioner for Information for Osun State, Mr. Dipo Eluwole, Governor Adeleke described the project as a milestone that aligns with his administration’s education agenda.
“The establishment of a university here in Modakeke is a milestone achievement, which aligns with our drive to boost the educational sector. While congratulating you once again, I charge you to ensure that the proposed university becomes one of the best in Nigeria — both academically and culturally,” he said.
Founder of Curators University, Mr. Olusola Amusan, highlighted the importance of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) in making world-class tertiary education accessible.
“Our goal is to support the community and all our students through such partnerships — whether private or government — to ensure they can access the education we are providing here,” he noted.
Chairman of the University Groundbreaking Planning Committee, Mr. Abimbola Amusan, added that the vision is to create a global academic and innovation hub that will empower youths, create jobs, and drive economic growth.
In his remarks, Oba Olubiyi urged Modakeke indigenes in the diaspora to emulate the founder’s initiative and give back to their community.
The university is expected to play a pioneering role in shaping Africa’s future in technology and innovation.
