Premier League to roll out Ref Cams for opening weekend

Premier League announces dates for the 2023/2024 season

The Premier League will introduce referee body cameras during selected matches in the opening weekend of the season, with the goal of making them a permanent fixture.

The “Ref Cams” will be tested in a number of Gameweek 1 fixtures after receiving approval from clubs and the league’s broadcast partners.

The technology, first trialled by FIFA at the Club World Cup in the US earlier this summer, was well-received by fans and is now set to enhance domestic football coverage by offering viewers a referee’s-eye view of the action.

The cameras are mounted on the Premier League referee’s ear and linked to a microphone and transmitter, enabling live feeds to be sent directly to broadcasters.
