Shakira has hit a major milestone with her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran world tour, selling over one million tickets in Mexico alone, according to promoter OCESA.
In a press release issued Thursday, the company celebrated the achievement, calling it “an unprecedented figure and a statement of impact as powerful as the historic record of her 12 sold-out dates at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City.”
“One million tickets… in a country of 129 million inhabitants!” the statement added.
The massive sales figure comes after Shakira staged 26 concerts across the Latin American country. In March, she made history with seven consecutive sold-out shows at the capital’s Estadio GNP Seguros. The tour will return to the same venue for five more concerts in late August and September.
With those upcoming performances, Shakira will become the first artist to perform that many dates at the iconic venue, formerly known as Foro Sol.
As demand continues to surge, the Colombian superstar has been steadily adding new dates to the tour.
The overwhelming success of her tour has also propelled the Hips Don’t Lie singer to the top of Billboard Boxscore’s mid-year ranking, with $130 million (£98 million) in gross earnings as of June.
