Nigerian singer Simi has weighed in on the now-infamous Ibom Air drama, shifting the spotlight from passenger Comfort Emmanson’s unruly behaviour to what she calls an equally “mad” invasion of privacy.
The viral clip, filmed during Emmanson’s forcible removal from a Sunday flight from Uyo to Lagos, showed the passenger’s breasts fully exposed — uncensored — to millions online. Simi says that’s unacceptable and whoever posted it should face legal consequences.
“Yes, aunty did too much,” Simi wrote on Instagram, “but someone recorded her being exposed like that and then posted it without blurring it out. Why is nobody holding them accountable?”
She argued that while Emmanson will rightly face the law for assaulting crew and causing chaos onboard, the person who uploaded intimate footage for public consumption is guilty of their own offence.
“You can’t condemn one madness and leave another,” she added.
The incident began when Emmanson allegedly refused to turn off her phone before takeoff. A confrontation with crew and passengers followed, escalating after landing into a physical assault on the purser and a failed attempt to use a fire extinguisher as a weapon. She was arrested, remanded at Kirikiri Prison, and banned from all future Ibom Air flights.
