Popular social commentator, Solomon Buchi, has reacted to reports of media personality Toke Makinwa expecting her first child, expressing both happiness for her and discomfort over how she tied the news to Jesus.
In a video shared on Instagram, Buchi acknowledged that becoming a mother is a beautiful milestone, especially as Toke approaches 40. However, he stressed that her attempt to link the decision to God did not sit well with him.
“I am happy that Toke is having a child at almost 40. It seems like it is something she has really desired as a woman but I have a problem with mixing Jesus and God with it,” he said.
According to Buchi, being a Christian or a “Jesus girl” comes with living by God’s standards, which, in his view, clearly state that parenthood should happen within the confines of marriage.
He argued that while mistakes happen and God’s grace is available, deliberately choosing to have a child outside of wedlock and then trying to spiritualize it contradicts biblical principles.
“Just say that you wanted to be a mother and now you are about to be a mother… there is no need to infuse God into it because according to God’s standard, the only right way to be a parent is in the premise of marriage,” he emphasized.
Buchi’s comments have sparked mixed reactions online. While some of his followers agreed with him, others argued that only God has the ultimate authority to judge Toke Makinwa’s choices.
