Son Heung-Min’s jersey has become the highest-selling of any athlete in the world, according to LAFC co-president and GM John Thorrington. The recent LAFC signing has seen shirt sales surpass those of NBA stars LeBron James and Stephen Curry, as well as MLS rival Lionel Messi.
Thorrington revealed the figures reflect real-time sales data since Son Heung-Min’s signing was announced.
“This is now the second week where we’re not just talking about the highest-selling football jersey in the MLS,” he told talkSPORT.
“It is the highest-selling jersey of any sport in the world right now… from when he signed at LAFC to now, he has sold more jerseys than any athlete in the world.”
In addition, the Los Angeles Dodgers announced that Son will throw the ceremonial first pitch at Dodger Stadium on August 27, when they face the San Diego Padres. LAFC has encouraged fans to attend the MLB game to witness the introduction of their new star to another major Los Angeles sports stage.
Son Heung-Min’s upcoming Dodgers appearance is part of MLS clubs’ growing strategy to use mainstream American sports platforms to boost the visibility of international signings.
