Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has confirmed he will be leaving the club this summer, drawing the curtain on a remarkable ten-year spell in North London.
The 33-year-old South Korean star, who joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, leaves an indelible legacy with 173 goals in 454 appearances. His consistent brilliance made him not only one of the club’s most prolific forwards but also one of its most cherished figures.
Son Heung-min was instrumental in Tottenham’s 2–1 Europa League final win over Manchester United in May, a historic match that ended the club’s 17-year trophy drought. As captain, he proudly lifted the trophy, adding a crowning moment to his illustrious Spurs career.
Speaking at a press conference in Seoul—where the team is currently on pre-season tour—Son Heung-min called the decision “the most difficult one I have made in my career.”
“I came to north London as a kid, a very young boy who didn’t even speak English,” he said. “Leaving this club as a grown man is a very, very proud moment.”
Although his contract runs until 2026, Son has been heavily linked with a move to MLS side Los Angeles FC. While the exact date of his departure remains uncertain, Sunday’s friendly against Newcastle in Seoul may mark his final appearance in a Spurs shirt.
Tottenham’s new manager, Thomas Frank, who took over from Ange Postecoglou in June, praised Son’s legacy:
“A true Spurs legend. One of the greatest players to play in the Premier League.
“If this is his last game, what a place to do it, in front of his home fans. It could be a beautiful ending.”
Tottenham are also set to face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on August 13, but Son’s future may be settled before then.
