Nigerian singer Spyro has revealed how his unwavering commitment to his Christian faith once put him at odds with members of his own team, who feared it would hurt his career prospects.
The “Who’s Your Guy?” crooner recalled that after leaving his former record label in 2019 to forge his own path, he took out bank and personal loans to fund his music, relying solely on determination, hard work, and his belief in God.
According to Spyro, some close associates urged him to drop his “Jesus Boy” branding and even remove “Christ Ambassador” from his profile, warning that it might limit his opportunities.
“I remember saying I would rather DIE than remove Jesus from my profile,” Spyro said, noting that while he understood their concerns, he could not compromise his convictions. One even suggested he replace it with “Child of God,” calling it a broader term, but Spyro stood firm, insisting the name of Jesus would open doors.
Years later, he says those same doubters are now congratulating him on his success, with one telling him, “A lot of artistes are suffering now — no deals, no shows — but you are in a very good place and I am proud of you.”
