Temu sued for trademark infringement and counterfeit sales

Temu

Gas Drawls LLC, founded by late rapper MF Doom and his widow Jasmine Dumile Thompson in 2011, has filed a lawsuit against Whaleco Inc., the parent company of online marketplace Temu.

The suit accuses Temu of trademark infringement, unfair competition, and misappropriation of likeness. According to the filing, Temu allegedly marketed and sold counterfeit products bearing Gas Drawls’ trademarks, including t-shirts and art prints, in a way that could confuse consumers into believing they were officially licensed.

Gas Drawls claims these actions have damaged its trademarks and “devalue” MF Doom’s status in the hip-hop community. The company is seeking damages, legal costs, attorneys’ fees, and an order for Temu to immediately recall and remove all infringing products.

The lawsuit also seeks statutory damages of up to $2 million per counterfeit mark, per type of goods, as well as treble damages. In addition, Gas Drawls’ legal team criticized the platofrm’s overall business practices, describing the platform as “one of the most unethical companies operating in today’s global marketplace.”

As of now, Tthe company has not issued a public response to the lawsuit.
