Former Arsenal Star Thomas Partey Granted Bail in London Over Rape, Sexual Assault Charges

Thomas Partey Granted Bail in London

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after appearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on multiple rape and sexual assault charges.

The 32-year-old Ghanaian international is facing five counts of rape involving two women, as well as an additional sexual assault charge relating to a third woman. The alleged offences reportedly took place between 2021 and 2022, during his time as an Arsenal player.

Partey was formally charged just four days after his Arsenal contract expired on June 30, 2025.

Appearing in court on Tuesday, Partey stood in the dock with his hands behind his back, dressed in a black zip-neck jumper. He did not enter a plea during the brief hearing.

According to British police, the initial report of rape was received in February 2022, prompting a wider investigation that eventually led to multiple charges.

Partey’s lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, has publicly maintained his innocence.

“He denies all the charges against him,” she said. “He welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.”

Arsenal and Partey’s Career Timeline

Partey joined Arsenal in October 2020 from Spanish side Atletico Madrid in a deal worth ÂŁ45 million ($60 million). During his time with the Gunners, he made 167 appearances, scoring nine goals, including four goals in 52 matches last season.

Club Response

An Arsenal spokesperson confirmed the club had parted ways with the midfielder and said it would not comment further due to the ongoing legal proceedings.

“The player’s contract ended on June 30. Due to ongoing legal proceedings, the club is unable to comment on the case.”

The case is expected to move to a higher court in the coming months. As part of his bail conditions, Partey must comply with certain restrictions while the investigation continues.
