Nigerian music executive and talent manager Ubi Franklin has broken his silence over social media claims linking him to an alleged wristwatch theft, describing the accusations as false, misleading, and damaging to his reputation.
In a statement shared online, Ubi explained that the incident happened during his recent trip to Miami for the glamorous wedding of Afrobeats superstar Davido and his wife, Chioma Rowland.
Upon returning from the event, he has been focused on preparations for his sister’s funeral, which will be held this weekend, making the false rumours even more hurtful at such a sensitive time.
According to Ubi, while in Miami, a man identified as Benny offered to sell him a wristwatch. After checking the item and confirming its previous ownership, he declined to buy it to avoid potential complications.
However, during the wedding church service, Benny sent his brother to deliver another wristwatch to Ubi — one he had actually purchased and paid for in full. Due to the busy celebrations, he ended up with both wristwatches in his possession and wore the one delivered through Benny’s brother.
Shortly after the wedding, Ubi left Miami immediately to finalise funeral arrangements. While airborne, Benny contacted him about the other watch.
“I want to state clearly: I am not a thief. I have never stolen from anyone in my life. I purchased a wristwatch and paid in full from Benny,” Ubi stressed. He also revealed that Benny himself publicly debunked the rumour earlier in the day, yet it continued to spread.
Ubi thanked those who have reached out with support, stating that this will be his final word on the matter.
