Aaron Wan-Bissaka Commits to DR Congo, Named in Squad for World Cup Qualifiers

West Ham United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka has officially accepted an invitation from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to represent the nation at senior international level.

The 27-year-old right-back has been included in DR Congo’s squad for their upcoming Group B World Cup qualifying fixtures against South Sudan on September 5 and Senegal on September 9. He will line up alongside fellow internationals Axel Tuanzebe, Arthur Masuaku, and Yoane Wissa.

DR Congo currently top Group B with 13 points, holding a narrow advantage over Senegal and Sudan, who are both tied on 12 points.

Wan-Bissaka, who was born in England, previously featured for the country at youth level but never earned a senior cap. Despite multiple approaches from DR Congo in the past, he had declined until now.

Following five seasons at Manchester United, Wan-Bissaka completed a move to West Ham ahead of the 2024/25 campaign and has already registered 38 appearances in all competitions for the Hammers.

His decision marks a significant boost for DR Congo as they push for qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
