Actor Afeez Owo has finally addressed Yemi Solade’s recent public apology over an on-set altercation that took place more than 20 years ago during a film shoot near Ibadan, Oyo State.
In July, veteran actor Yemi Solade admitted he was at fault, describing the incident as the result of frustration and taking full responsibility for his actions.
Speaking on the African A-List Podcast, Afeez revealed he has let go of the past and holds no grudge against Yemi, whom he still regards as an elder in the profession.
“After watching his apology, I let go of everything,” Afeez said. “Even if he hadn’t apologized, I wouldn’t hold it against him. He’s like an elder brother. In our culture, when there is a disagreement between an elder and a younger person, the younger one is often expected to make peace – even if the elder is at fault.”
Recalling the incident, Afeez explained that he was the production manager at the time and was in charge of the welfare of cast and crew. He said the misunderstanding occurred while relocating from Ibadan to another set.
“I asked everyone to tell me what they needed before we left,” he explained. “Uncle Yemi did not understand me. When he later got hungry, he became upset and slapped me.”
Despite the altercation, Afeez urged colleagues and fans to accept Yemi’s apology and move forward in unity.
“We are all human. Sometimes emotions take over,” he said. “What matters is to accept what happened, make things right, and move on. Uncle Yemi has done that, and I believe we should let peace continue.”
He concluded by calling for better understanding and respect in Nollywood, stressing that progress in the industry depends on cooperation and mutual support.
