Barcelona and Spain midfielder Aitana Bonmatí has been crowned the Women’s Ballon d’Or winner for the third year in a row at an awards ceremony in Paris on Monday.
Bonmatí, 27, beat competition from her international teammate Mariona Caldentey, who finished second after Spain’s narrow defeat to England on penalties in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 final in July.
The award caps another stellar year for Bonmatí, who remains a dominant force in women’s football. She played a pivotal role in guiding Barcelona Femení to both the Liga F title and a Champions League triumph, further solidifying her reputation as one of the most complete midfielders of her generation.
Her latest win extends Spain’s remarkable run in the women’s game, following their 2023 World Cup triumph and continued dominance at club level through Barcelona.
Bonmatí now joins the ranks of legends with multiple Ballon d’Or titles, cementing her legacy as a trailblazer in women’s football.
