Carlos Alcaraz Defeats Jannik Sinner to Win Second US Open Title, Reclaims World No.1

Carlos Alcaraz powered past Jannik Sinner in four sets on Sunday night to lift the US Open title, a final that showcased tennis brilliance and drew headlines for the mixed reaction to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s presence at the event in New York.

The 22-year-old Spaniard sealed a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory to claim his second US Open crown and the sixth Grand Slam title of his career. The win also served as sweet revenge after Sinner defeated him in the Wimbledon final just two months ago.

Alcaraz’s triumph also halted Sinner’s remarkable 27-match winning streak at hard-court majors and restored the Spaniard as world No.1 for the first time since September 2023.

“I tried my best today. I couldn’t do more,” Sinner admitted after the match. The Italian had also lost to Alcaraz in a thrilling French Open final earlier this year.

Sinner’s defeat means the US Open continues its unusual streak in the Open era — no man has successfully defended the title since Roger Federer’s five-year dominance between 2004 and 2008.
