Veteran Nigerian comedian Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome, popularly known as Alibaba, has weighed in on the shocking assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Speaking in a viral video, Alibaba described the incident as “terrible” but admitted he felt an unusual sense of relief when it was confirmed that the alleged shooter was not a Black or Arab man
“I can’t put into words how relieved I was when I heard the suspect wasn’t Black. Because if it were, the narrative would have been different,” the ace comedian remarked.
Authorities have identified the suspect as Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Utah. Robinson comes from a conservative, pro-gun Republican family — his parents, Amber Denise Robinson and Matthew Carl Robinson, are both registered Republicans, just like Kirk himself.
Robinson, however, is registered as a nonpartisan voter in Utah and is officially listed as “inactive” for failing to participate in the last two general elections. Reports suggest that in recent years, he had become more political and was openly critical of Kirk, once telling relatives that the activist was “spreading hate” and was “full of hate.”
Robinson briefly attended Utah State University in 2021 after earning a generous scholarship, but later dropped out. Despite his short academic stint, he had a strong academic record, scoring a 34 on the ACT — one of the highest possible scores.
