Earlier this year, Janice Combs, mother of music mogul Diddy, was hit with a staggering $33 million federal RICO lawsuit by her former associate Deon Best (aka D1).
D1 alleged that Janice Combs participated in a scheme to steal his intellectual property rights, royalties, and publishing revenue, pointing specifically to the track Come With Me from the 1998 Godzilla soundtrack. According to his claims, despite controlling, producing, and creating the song, Combs wrongfully claimed ownership.
However, TMZ now reports that the case has been dismissed without prejudice. Court filings confirm that the 85-year-old is no longer facing the lawsuit. Neither side has publicly addressed the dismissal.
But while Janice is off the hook, her son Diddy remains embroiled in serious legal woes.
Just this week, former stylist Deonte Nash filed a lawsuit accusing the Bad Boy Records founder of sexual abuse, telling Rolling Stone:
“His abuse has consistently affected every part of my life, from my personal well-being to my career, and the damage cannot be ignored. I am reclaiming my story and demanding the justice I deserve.”
The fresh claims add to a growing list of cases against Diddy. Back in July, the hip-hop mogul was convicted of two counts of transportation for prostitution after a month-long trial. He was acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering, but the charges he was found guilty of each carry a 10-year maximum sentence — leaving him potentially facing 20 years behind bars.
His sentencing is scheduled for October 3.
