Nollywood star Eniola Ajao has revealed that she took legal action against a blogger whose edited video from the funeral of Odunlade Adekola’s father sparked controversy and damaged her reputation.
The actress disclosed that the blogger, Adabasioni Oluwafemi Aseoro, was arrested and prosecuted for defamation under Nigeria’s cybercrime laws after the misleading video went viral.
According to Ajao, the content was deliberately manipulated, portraying her in a negative light and prompting her to defend her image in court.
Blogger Arrested and Jailed
Aseoro was reportedly remanded at Ikoyi Prison for two weeks before eventually tendering a public apology. While Ajao accepted the apology and chose to forgive him, she stressed that her forgiveness should not be mistaken for weakness.
“I can confirm the arrest and prosecution of Adabasioni Oluwafemi Aseoro, a blogger for criminal defamation and cyberbullying under the Nigerian Cyber Crime Acts. He assassinated my character, he paid for it in full,” she wrote on Instagram.
She added that though many felt two weeks behind bars was too lenient, she showed mercy “because of his mother and wives,” but warned that anyone else attempting similar acts could face up to seven years in prison.
Gratitude and Support
Eniola Ajao also expressed appreciation to CSP Mariam Ogunmolasuyi and activist Aghedo Stephen for their support throughout the legal process.
The Funeral Video Controversy
The dispute stemmed from a video at Odunlade Adekola’s father’s funeral, where Ajao was seen hugging the actor’s wife. Some critics online claimed her body language appeared suspicious, while others accused her of being distracted during the service.
Ajao has now made it clear that she will not hesitate to defend her reputation and warned bloggers and online users that defamation and cyberbullying carry serious legal consequences.
