It was a night of music, glamour, and heartfelt tributes as Jay-Z’s grandmother, Hattie White, marked her 100th birthday in grand fashion.
The milestone celebration, held on Sunday, saw Stevie Wonder give a surprise performance in honour of White, who has been described as the “queen” of the Carter family. Videos and photos from the party quickly spread across social media, with Jay-Z’s mother-in-law, Tina Knowles, hailing the event on Instagram.
“The elegant, classy, beautiful lady turned 100 and was celebrated by her family and friends at a party fit for the Queen she is! Stevie Wonder, one of her favourite artists, paid tribute to her with her own private concert! Those Carters know how to party!” she wrote.
The celebration also received official recognition as Brooklyn’s mayor declared Sunday ‘Ms. Hattie White Day.’
The star-studded guest list featured Beyoncé, Megan Thee Stallion, Klay Thompson, Nas, Chris Martin, and Memphis Bleek, all of whom joined the Carter family in honouring White.
In a touching moment, the centenarian took the microphone to thank her guests:
